Apple crumble

Good morning!

Last Friday of the month 🙂

It is the very first time I made this recipe, in fact I though it was not going to be edible, it just looked kind of weird but it turned out amazingly delicious! This recipe was shared with me by a friend from the lab.

Ingredients

  • 3 apples (Pink lady)
  • 45 g butter (separated)
  • 150 g cold butter
  • 6 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 140 g granulated white sugar
  • 210 g (about 1 cup) wheat flour
  • 10 g rolled oats
  • Cinnamon powder to taste (optional)

Directions

  1. Peel apples and cut them in small dices.DSC_0179DSC_0180DSC_0181
  2. Preheat a pan and melt 45 g butter. Add diced apples and brown sugar. Incorporate for about 10-15 min until apples start looking “caramelized like” (a little brown and the sugar has formed a syrup with the butter). This step will help reduce oven time, because you are starting to soften the apples.
  3. In a medium bowl, cut cold butter (150 g) into small pieces and mix (using your hand or a fork) with flour, half of rolled oats and white granulated sugar, until it looks like crumbs or something like that (mine don’t look like crumbs in this photo).IMG_5499
  4. Transfer apples to a baking pan (squared 8×8″), add cinnamon evenly and top with the crumb like mixture. Sprinkle the rest of rolled oats on top and finish it with some more cinnamon powder.DSC_0186DSC_0187
  5. Bake in pre heated oven (200 C) for about 25-30 min or until the surface is golden and crunchy and apples are softer (use a knife to check this).DSC_0191DSC_0189
  6. Serve hot and if desired, with vanilla ice cream on top! (I did not have ice cream 😦 )
  7. Enjoy!IMG_5513_editedIMG_55043D86714C-E9FD-48F5-AF04-5FF92E172C1B
